Easter is a very important religious holiday. Forty days before Easter Sunday, Ash Wednesday starts the Lent period. The week following Palm Sunday is called the Holy Week. Maundy Thursday symbolises the Last Supper of Christ and his disciples. On Good Friday there are ceremonies commemorating the crucifixion of Christ.On Holy Saturday, baskets with Easter food are brought to Polish churches and blessed. We usually put some Easter eggs, sausages, ham, bread, salt and some horseradish with grated red beets in our baskets.Easter Sunday is the day of Resurrection of Christ and starts with a special mass, which ends the period of Lent.The last day of Easter in Poland is known as Dyngus. On that day, boys douse girls with water.
